💫Episode 41 : Tantra, Trauma & Pleasure: Reconnecting to Your Body

For many women over 40, sex becomes confusing… quiet… or completely disconnected.

Not because something is wrong with us.
But because our bodies are asking for something different.

In this powerful and honest conversation, I sat down with Michelle Lee, founder of New You Naples and creator of Lee Activation, to talk about sex beyond performance, beyond shame, and beyond obligation.

This episode isn’t about “fixing” your libido.

It’s about remembering how to feel alive in your body again.

Why Desire Changes After 40

If you’ve felt your desire shift in your late 30s or 40s, you’re not alone.

According to Michelle, much of what women experience during this season is tied to:

  • Chronic stress

  • Cortisol overload

  • Adrenal fatigue

  • Hormonal shifts

  • Nervous system dysregulation

When your body is living in fight-or-flight, it isn’t prioritizing pleasure.

Your nervous system is intelligent.
If you’re overwhelmed, exhausted, over-functioning, or burnt out… your body won’t signal for more stimulation. It signals for safety.

And safety is the gateway to pleasure.

The Nervous System + Sexual Energy Connection

One of the most powerful takeaways from this conversation:

Sex is not just physical. It’s neurological.

When you engage in breathwork, deep presence, or even an intentional make-out session, you are:

  • Overriding stress responses

  • Activating the vagus nerve

  • Regulating cortisol

  • Building life force energy

Pleasure isn’t indulgent.
It’s regulatory.

This is why flow states — dancing, yoga, singing, creativity, breathwork — are so powerful. They move you out of the analytical mind and into the body.

And the body is where sensuality lives.

Tantra Isn’t What You Think

In Western culture, tantra often gets reduced to “better sex.”

But in its true Sanskrit meaning, tantra means to weave or expand consciousness.

White Tantra (as Michelle describes) is about:

  • Inner union of masculine and feminine energy

  • Radical presence

  • Emotional honesty

  • Intimate connection with your inner self

  • Building a practice — not just collecting tools

It’s not about performance.
It’s about embodiment.

And when embodiment deepens… sex transforms naturally.

The Difference Between Tension & Surrender

Here’s where things got especially interesting.

Michelle explained that many women experience orgasm through tension — holding, tightening, pushing. This mirrors masculine energetic patterns.

But feminine energetic pleasure comes from surrender.

Instead of chasing a quick release, tantric practice can involve:

  • Slowing down

  • Building energy through breath

  • Moving energy up the spine

  • Allowing full-body sensation

  • Relaxing rather than gripping

Pleasure becomes expansive instead of localized.

And this doesn’t require a partner.

Solo Intimacy & Manifestation

One of the boldest statements from the episode:

Your sexual energy is your creative energy.

When you feel good in your body:

  • Your frequency shifts

  • Your confidence shifts

  • Your magnetism increases

  • Your manifestation power strengthens

This isn’t about needing a partner.

It’s about reconnecting to yourself.

Solo practices might include:

  • Self-touch instead of overstimulation

  • Sensual movement

  • Hormone support if needed

  • Dancing

  • Breathwork

  • Massage

  • Flow state practices

Energy in motion stays in motion.

If you do nothing, nothing shifts.

Hormones Matter (Let’s Be Honest)

Perimenopause and menopause are real.

Hormonal imbalance affects:

  • Desire

  • Mood

  • Energy

  • Sensation

There is no shame in checking your hormones.
There is no shame in hormone replacement therapy.

Biology and spirituality are not enemies. They work together.

Trauma, Blocks & Honest Conversations

If intimacy feels blocked, there may be:

  • Old relationship wounds

  • Unspoken resentments

  • Shame stories

  • Body image narratives

  • Past trauma stored in the nervous system

The body keeps the score.

Clearing energy requires:

  • Honest conversations

  • Emotional ownership

  • Letting go of repeated victim stories

  • Safe partnership (or practitioner support)

You cannot sweep it under the rug.

Unspoken energy stays in the room.

3 Pieces of Sex Advice for Women Over 40

Michelle’s three most powerful pieces of advice:

  1. Own every part of your story. Nothing was wrong. It was all learning.

  2. Get real. Stop repeating the same story without taking new action.

  3. Reconsider overstimulation (including vibrators). Rebuild sensitivity through presence and relaxation.

Pleasure after 40 isn’t about doing more.

It’s about softening more.

Final Reminder

Your body is wise.
Your pleasure matters.
And it is never too late to feel alive again.

Desire isn’t something you chase.

It’s something you allow.
