💫Episode 46 : How to Regulate Your Nervous System Using Your Moon Sign

Most people are not bad at regulating their nervous system. They just aren’t using the tools that match how they’re wired.

In this episode of Collective Guidance, Charla Goodnight explores how your moon sign reveals the way your nervous system responds to stress — and more importantly, how you return to safety.

Because regulation isn’t about being calm all the time.

It’s about returning to safety after you’ve been activated.

And safety looks different for every nervous system.

What Regulation Actually Means

Regulation is not:

  • Never getting triggered

  • Never reacting

  • Being calm 24/7

Regulation is:

  • Feeling your emotions without abandoning yourself

  • Moving through triggers with awareness

  • Returning to safety after activation

When you’re dysregulated, you’re not operating from logic. You’re in your body. In memory. In instinct. In your moon energy.

That’s why “just calm down” never works.

Your moon sign holds the key to how your emotional body processes stress — and how it feels safe again.

Nervous System Regulation by Moon Element

Your moon sign falls into one of four elements: Fire, Air, Water, or Earth. Each regulates differently.

Fire Moons (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

When dysregulated:

  • Anger, irritation, impatience

  • Explosive emotions

  • Urge to act, react, or leave

  • Fight response

Fire moons are activated by intensity. Stillness is not regulating — at least not at first.

What doesn’t work:

  • Being told to sit still

  • Forced meditation while activated

  • Suppressing anger

What does work:

  • Fast walking or running

  • Shaking, dancing, short bursts of exercise

  • Strong breathwork (like box breathing or Wim Hof)

Fire moons need discharge. Movement first — insight second.

When you stop judging your fire, it becomes warmth instead of destruction.

Air Moons (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

When dysregulated:

  • Racing thoughts

  • Anxiety and mental looping

  • Overthinking

  • Talking without landing

Air moons regulate through understanding.

What doesn’t work:

  • “Just feel it” without language

  • Emotional pressure

  • Silence while activated

  • Being rushed into decisions

What does work:

  • Journaling

  • Talking it out

  • Voice memos

  • Naming feelings out loud

  • Cognitive reframing

  • Rhythmic breathing

Air moons regulate through clarity, not quiet.

When the mind has somewhere to land, the body follows.

Water Moons (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)

When dysregulated:

  • Emotional flooding

  • Shutdown or withdrawal

  • Crying

  • Absorbing others’ emotions

  • Freeze or collapse response

Water moons are deeply sensitive and intuitive.

What doesn’t work:

  • Being pushed to explain feelings

  • Logic over empathy

  • Being told you’re “too sensitive”

  • Rushing emotional processing

What does work:

  • Warm baths or showers

  • Blankets, warmth, tea

  • Slow, deep breathing

  • Gentle self-touch

  • Time alone without pressure

  • Being near water or nature

Water moons don’t need fixing.

They need permission to feel safely.

When emotional processing isn’t rushed, intuition becomes a guide instead of a burden.

Earth Moons (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

When dysregulated:

  • Tension in the body

  • Rigidity or control

  • Over-functioning

  • Stress without emotional language

Earth moons often stay productive while internally overwhelmed.

What doesn’t work:

  • Emotional chaos

  • Abstract processing

  • Being rushed

  • Overstimulation

What does work:

  • Bare feet on the ground

  • Slow walks

  • Gentle yoga or stretching

  • Cleaning and organizing

  • Consistent routines

  • Simple next steps

Earth moons regulate when they feel grounded and supported.

They don’t need emotional intensity.
They need steady.

The Real Invitation: Self-Compassion

You don’t need to heal your moon.
You don’t need to transcend your nervous system.
You don’t need to become someone else to feel safe.

You need to work with how you’re wired.

Understanding your moon sign brings:
Awareness → Compassion → Regulation → Choice → Power

And when you feel in choice, you feel empowered.

Your Next Step

  1. Look up your moon sign (astro.com is a great resource).

  2. Research your element.

  3. Choose one regulation tool aligned with your moon.

  4. Notice how much faster you return to yourself.

Regulation becomes less about effort…
and more about alignment.
