💫Episode 74 : How to Navigate Life's Big Shifts: Energy, Astrology & Awakening

"Show me the magic." That's how psychotherapist and astrologer Kathy Clair-Hayes starts her morning — walking out the door, saying those three words to the universe, and living from a place of openness and wonderment.

It's a small practice. And it changes everything.

In Episode 74 of Collective Guidance, Charla Goodnight welcomes back one of the most beloved returning guests in the show's history — Kathy Clair-Hayes, seasoned psychotherapist, astrologer, and energy intuitive whose previous episode became one of the most listened to in the entire catalog. Today, Kathy is back to go even deeper: into the energetics of major life transitions, the astrology of this current moment, ancestral cord cutting, and what it actually means to navigate an awakening in a body that is being asked to change faster than ever before.

What Is an Energy Intuitive — And Why Does It Matter Right Now?

Before diving into the big topics, Charla asks Kathy to explain what an energy intuitive actually is — because it's a term that sounds mystical but is, in Kathy's hands, deeply practical.

An energy intuitive, she explains, is someone who senses and reads energy — not just in a vague, floaty way, but specifically: how is your nervous system wired? What does your particular energy system need to stay grounded? What is the static in your system that's preventing you from hearing your own intuitive voice?

Because when we're in a stress response — when our system is in survival mode — we literally cannot access our intuition. There's too much noise. Too much static. The signal gets lost.

Kathy's work is about clearing that static so people can tune back in to what's actually true for them — not what the news says, not what social media says, not what fear says — but what their own heart and body knows.

The Energetics of Major Life Transition

One of the most grounding conversations in this episode centers on what actually happens in the body when we're going through a significant life shift — a change in identity, a relationship ending, a career pivot, an awakening.

Kathy is quick to note: everyone's system is different. Some people experience sleep disturbance. Some have intensely vivid dreams or astral travel. Some feel completely ungrounded. Others feel a disruption in their usual sense of stability — a kind of cellular reorganization that can feel disorienting.

What she's seeing across her clients, and what astrology confirms, is that we are currently in a period of accelerated change. Uranus has moved into Gemini — a shift from the grounded, body-based up-leveling of the Uranus in Taurus years into something faster, higher frequency, and more mentally expansive. The invitation now is not just to receive new downloads but to bring them into the body — to let the frequency land, integrate, and actually rewire how we live.

"Things are shifting and changing whether you want it to happen or not. You can fight the change, or you can step into the river and ask: what do I need on my raft to get through this with ease and grace?"

The Danger of Checking Out

One of Kathy's most important observations is about what happens when we don't learn to work with our own energy systems: we check out.

And checking out doesn't always look like numbing or denial. Sometimes it looks like scrolling Instagram for an hour when you only meant to check one thing. Sometimes it looks like busyness — packing your schedule so full there's no space to feel what's happening. Sometimes it looks like getting swept up in everyone else's triggers and reactions, letting the collective chaos replace the quiet of your own inner knowing.

The antidote? Intentionality at the edges of your day.

Starting your morning with something conscious — even just a moment of prayer, breath, or stillness before the phone. Ending your evening the same way. These bookends create a container for your energy that helps you stay in the driver's seat of your own experience, rather than being pulled along by whatever is loudest.

When you feel uncomfortable — which, right now, is often — Kathy's invitation is not to immediately do something about it. It's to pause. Breathe. Ask: What does my body need right now? What does my heart need? What does my soul need? And wait for something to anchor you before taking action.

Your Chart Is Your Energy Blueprint

As an astrologer, Kathy sees the birth chart as a map of how a person's energy system is wired — not as fate, but as a framework for understanding why certain experiences land the way they do.

Do you have a lot of water in your chart? You may feel other people's emotions as your own. Lots of air? You might download information easily, but struggle to stay grounded. Heavy earth? You're stable and rooted, but may resist change longer than it serves you. Fire? You need to move energy through your body to process it.

The transits — the planets moving around your natal chart in real time — are the universe's way of having a conversation with who you already are. When Uranus makes contact with your personal planets, expect the unexpected: radical change, sudden awareness, downloads that come out of nowhere and rearrange something fundamental.

The key is not to resist. The key is to stay conscious enough to ask: What is being asked of me here? How can I work with this rather than against it?

What the Land Knows — Sacred Sites and Ancestral Energy

One of the most fascinating threads in this episode is a conversation about sacred places and what happens when our bodies arrive somewhere that carries old, dense, or powerful energy.

Kathy shares her experience of getting suddenly and intensely ill at an immigration museum in Ireland — and how it felt, to her, unmistakably ancestral. As if the land was communicating something her body wasn't ready to receive. Charla shares her own story of arriving near Mount Shasta and feeling an immediate, urgent need to leave — a response she now understands as a mismatch of energies rather than something wrong with her.

Kathy's wisdom here is gentle and practical: if a place feels overwhelming or uncomfortable, stop. Breathe. Ask the land to help you acclimate. Ask your system to open to whatever information is trying to come through.

Because sometimes what feels like anxiety or physical illness at a sacred site is simply your body encountering a frequency it hasn't calibrated to yet. Give it time. Ask for help. And trust that when you return — more grounded, more conscious — the experience may be entirely different.

Cutting Ancestral Cords — The Work That Goes Beyond This Lifetime

The conversation on cord cutting in this episode goes deeper than the usual explanation. Yes, we form energetic cords with people we're in relationship with. Yes, when those relationships end — or become unhealthy — those cords can keep us tethered in ways that block our growth.

But Kathy takes it further: we also carry ancestral cords. Patterns, wounds, and energetic entanglements that have been passed down through lineages, sometimes for generations — things that show up in our relationships as contrast we can't quite explain, reactions that feel disproportionate, patterns that repeat in ways that seem to have nothing to do with our current life.

Kathy is beginning her training in family constellations — a therapeutic modality specifically designed to surface and release exactly these kinds of ancestral entanglements. And her invitation to anyone who suspects they might be carrying something that isn't entirely theirs: get curious. Ask who else in the family has experienced this pattern. Trace it back. The untangling is possible.

The practice of cord cutting, in any form — ritual, prayer, visualization, bodywork — is about freeing the knot so you can become who you're actually here to be in this lifetime, rather than unconsciously replaying what your ancestors didn't get to resolve.

One Piece of Guidance for Anyone Ready to Up-Level

When Charla asks Kathy what spirit would most want the collective to hear right now, her answer is beautiful in its simplicity:

Both/and.

Not: when I feel safe enough, then I'll up-level. Not: once I've done enough work, then I'll be worthy of expansion.

Both. At the same time. You can be opening your heart to a higher frequency and be confronted by the ordinary messiness of daily life. You can be on a spiritual journey and make mistakes. You can be growing and need help.

The path is not linear. It's a spiral. You'll up-level, get challenged, up-level again, get challenged again. Integration is what makes each step stick — the space between experiences where you actually let the shift land in your body, in your cells, in how you show up.

And through all of it, find your people. Find a community, a therapist, a class, a friend — someone who is on the journey with you. Because challenges are hard things met with support and love. Trauma is hard things that leave us feeling alone. The difference is community.
