91: What is Channeling? How to Tap Into Your Intuition
💫Episode 91: What is Channeling? How to Tap Into Your Intuition
Have you ever said something out loud and then thought, "Wait, where did that come from? That wasn't quite me."
Most of us brush right past that moment. We call it a gut feeling or being in the flow, and we don't think about it again. But there's an entire practice built around that exact sensation: opening yourself on purpose so something wiser than your everyday mind can speak through you.
It's called channeling.
I know some of you just rolled your eyes, and others are thinking, "Finally, she's talking about channeling!" Either way, this is my invitation to stay with me.
My guest, Gregg Campisi, is a speaker, author and the founder of Awaken: Center for Human Evolution, a nonprofit he launched in 2012 that has grown into a full community hub for spiritual and holistic healing in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia. Two years ago, channeling became Gregg's own daily practice. The wisdom he receives, which he calls The Simple Truths of Existence, is now a book series beginning with Lighten Up! From Density to Freedom.
What is channeling?
When many people picture channeling, they imagine someone setting their own consciousness aside while another entity speaks through them. Gregg loves listening to channels like that, but his experience is a little different.
For him, channeling feels like translating. Information comes through as a mix of seeing, hearing, feeling and simply knowing, all at once. Then he speaks whatever wants to come through. He feels it as part himself, part his guides, and sometimes simply his higher self.
People often want to know who he's channeling. Gregg doesn't ask. Labels can get in the way of the message.
Most importantly, he wants everyone to know this: allowing any kind of message to come through is a form of channeling. We're all intuitive. And like throwing a baseball, it gets better with practice.
Intuition isn't a gift. It's something we all have.
Gregg's wife doesn't love the word "gifted" when we talk about psychics, and he agrees. No one gives us the ability to be intuitive. We already have it.
People who say they inherited the gift from a grandmother usually just grew up around it, so they never developed a block to it. If you don't feel intuitive, Gregg says, it's usually because something is blocking you from your natural abilities.
How fear makes us "dense"
Gregg's channeling began during an intention-setting ceremony with his wife. His intention was simple: How do I release fear?
Not the big fears about the world, but the subtle ones we all carry: anxiety, worry, self-worth. Even after more than 20 years on a spiritual path, he still wrestles with them.
Three hours of material poured through him. The first image was of himself as a little boy, curled in a ball in the corner of a cave. And he didn't just see that fear, he felt it. It was heavy and dense.
That word, dense, became the key to everything. Fear has an energetic property, and that property is density. When we say we "feel small" when we're afraid, we aren't exaggerating. Fear literally condenses us.
What ice, water and air teach us
Gregg shared a beautiful analogy from the physical world.
Ice, water and vapor are made of exactly the same thing. The only difference is how tightly the particles are packed. Packed tightly, they vibrate slowly and become solid, stuck like a rock. As they expand and raise their vibration, they become water, which flows. Expand further and they become air, which is everywhere and isn't weighed down by gravity.
Our emotions work the same way:
Dense energies like fear, hate, judgment and criticism weigh us down.
Expansive energies like love and joy help us flow and float.
We already speak this language. We call stubborn people "thick-headed" or "dense." We talk about "floating on air" and "going with the flow." We keep telling ourselves how we're meant to live.
Why density blocks your light
Think of your arteries. When too much builds up, it cuts off the flow of blood. Gregg says energy works the same way. As we take on density, we cut off the flow of creative life force, whatever you call it: God, Source, the divine.
And light can't pass through a solid. That's why a cave is dark. When we're dense, we block divine light from reaching us, and we trap our own light so we can't share it with the world.
That's why lightening up matters so much.
How to lighten up
The good news is we already know how:
Spend time with people who bring you joy, not those who criticize.
Meditate, try breathwork, or go to a sound bath.
Do anything that genuinely makes you happy.
But it's not one and done. We add density all day long through our thoughts, judgments and criticism. And Gregg is clear that this isn't something to judge yourself for. We grew up in a denser world, and we're evolving into a more expansive one. Judging yourself just adds more density.
Trauma, energy vampires and victim mentality
If fear is dense, Gregg was shown something even denser: trauma. He describes it as a black hole in our energy field, so dense that light can't escape. It drains our own life force, and if it's strong enough, it pulls on the people around us. That's what we call an "energy vampire."
But Gregg asks us not to judge. People like that are carrying an immense amount of unreleased pain, and none of us were ever taught how to release it.
Trauma also acts like a wormhole, pulling us out of the present and back into the past. That's where victim mentality comes from: the belief that life just keeps happening to us.
The message that came through clearly for Gregg is this: life is meant to happen through us.
Why we pass on the pain
When something hurts us, we put up an energetic wall so it can't happen again. Gregg shared his own example. His dad, a wonderful man, would sometimes yell, and as a little boy Gregg was scared. So he built a wall against anger.
But that wall kept anger out and trapped his own anger in, like a volcano waiting to erupt.
When we resist life, it doesn't go away. It just bounces off our walls. And because energy has to move, we pass the pain on, usually to the people closest to us. That's projection and deflection, and it's how generational trauma gets handed down.
Why our souls choose our families
This next part brought Gregg to tears when it came through.
Why are the people closest to us the best at triggering us? Gregg believes it's because, on a soul level, we're trying to help them let go of their density.
He believes our souls choose our families out of pure love. A soul sees where its future parents are stuck and says, "I'm coming to help free you. And if I can't free you, I'll take it on so I can free it."
I tell my own kids, "You chose me. I was supposed to be your teacher, but most importantly, I'm your student."
And for those of us healing from our parents, Gregg offers compassion: our parents were once children who came to help their parents. Every generation is getting a little lighter. Less trauma gets passed on, and more awareness does.
Is awakening speeding up?
Gregg believes it is. He sees awakening as an exponential curve that's about to skyrocket. Just look at how many more people now do yoga, meditate and openly talk about intuition.
When I asked about the role of everyday people, he said we're all playing our part. Often something in the outer world triggers an inner calling when we're ready. For Gregg, it was an early job designing graphics for a psychic hotline. For me, it was 2012, when my car was struck by lightning after I ignored my intuition about which way to go. I knew it was time to make some big shifts.
Many people feel that soul calling but stay quiet because they're afraid of being judged. That's why Gregg started Awaken. It began as discussion nights in his condo, where he'd open each one by saying, "Anything goes here, from angels to aliens. Nothing you say is crazy."
It's always a choice
Gregg believes the only real difference between someone asleep and someone awake is how much fear they're holding. We all have that inner knowing.
He's honest that it isn't easy. Some nights, he just wants to sit on the couch with his wife and watch a show. That's okay. But it's still a choice: What would my life look like if I meditated or channeled for two hours instead?
That hit home for me. During a recent massage, a message came through: "If you want that which you desire, you have to set aside the things that aren't fueling that desire."
And underneath it all, Gregg says, is creativity. We are here to create and experience creation. Art, music, dance, even cooking. When we allow creation instead of resisting it, we evolve naturally.
A message for you
Before we closed, I asked Gregg to share one message for listeners. He channeled this, in part:
"Beautiful souls, understand the grand importance of your being alive at this time, in this body, at this moment... There are no accidents. It is all part of the miracle of life. Every moment, every interaction, every experience that happens to you is all part of the grand picture that is unfolding for humanity."
